We have had an ongoing saga which began on New Years Eve; for some reason we lost the TV signal and we put it down to high winds blowing the dish off course. Going without the TV was not too bad for a day or two but when this form of deprivation ran into weeks it can really plumb the depths of torture – especially if you have several sons who like their regular shows.
We checked everything and nothing worked; we checked wiring, the digibox, the HDMI cables and even bought an entire new dish, assembled it and mounted it by dragging it up the side of the building on the end of a strong rope (those things are heavy!). In the end we had to decide it just had to be the simple fact that it was not pointing in the right direction at the sky. I mean, how many satellites are there up there!
We used the same logic as those guys used in the Aussie film The Dish; used a compass and just aimed, shifted and pointed until we got it at last. Believe it or not this whole process took us nearly six weeks. Peace reigned again in the house; those people who take part in those social experiments to see how long they can last without their TV…they are absolutely crazy.
