Sounds like a fascinating place to be - I hear there are several great museums and a cathedral...? in France the ignorance on this subject is staggering - the french drag their dogs everywhere with them and I saw many left in cars while the owners were shopping. Some parents just seem to have no sense of foreboding or danger whatsoever - heads full of cotton wool I think!

There are solar powered fans you can buy - you wind down the two back windows, put the fan onto the inside of the window, then wind the window back up. The window stays slightly open, and the solar fan sucks out the hot air. I bought two, one for each side of the car. One usually works much faster, but as long as there is sunlight, they work.

I parked my car in full sunlight, and sat in there for half an hour, and the temperature inside was cooler than outside. Only after that test would I leave my dog in the car - with water!!! If she spilled it - well, I had a wet floor, but that's nothing compared with a dog's life.

As for leaving a child - that's completely different. Temperatures aside - wouldn't you be afraid of kidnapping?

But now I'm in Ukraine, and the risk would be of them freezing.

You also see dog owners doing the same thing - every summer without fail you hear about it. I once witnessed a situation in a Sydney street where three people were desperately trying to release two beautiful Irish setters from the back seat of a car - they had been locked in with no water, no windows wound down even an inch for some fresh air and the car was left parked in the full sun in mid-afternoon. The police were called but sadly the dogs were both dead, they had literally cooked in that car. Then the owner threated the rescuers for smashing the windows of his car...he was charged with animal cruelty eventually.

If the child dies I say manslaughter charges for sure. These parents selfishly place their own convenience first.

Parents who do this should be charged with attempted murder or at the very least gross negligence.
