The Gurkha’s can stay – now let’s have Joanna Lumley for PM!

In one of the best decisions ever taken by members of the House of Commons, the MP’s completely over-ruled Prime Minister Gordon Brown and voted to not accept the ridiculous and highly discriminatory new rules which would see hundreds of retired Gurkhas and their families being refused the privilege of settling in the United Kingdom.

A more loyal servant of the Crown of England than the Gurkha soldier does not exist. The Gurkha’s have served the Crown with nothing short of distinction since 1817 – they have died fighting for the British monarch, they have been injured and served the British Army numbering many who were decorated with VC’s, DSO’s and MC’s.

gurkhaslumleyAnd the British Govt has systematically refused them permission to settle in the UK as British subjects – until now. These men were good enough to serve and die for the Crown so they are good enough to live here, it is the very least the Govt can do for these unique and wonderful people.

Actress Joanna Lumley, herself the daughter of a Ghurka regiment officer, has championed the Gurkha’s cause since the unfairness of the policy came to light and has steadfastly fought for the rights of these men and their families. It is truly one of the best battles ever won on British soil – and the most unneccessary one at that.

The Gurkha is a legend; a ferocious, fearless enemy – a loyal, courageous and resilient friend. Their indispensible contribution to service in the British Armed Forces continues today; the British Crown owes them far more than it could ever repay them.
