The grief and shock over the death of Heath Ledger is still running deep and raw, god knows how his family is coping right now. They are a strong close-knit family and no doubt this will draw them all even closer together over the coming months - not exactly a great way for it all to happen though eh?
But I am sure they will be proud and deeply honoured to see how Heath was remembered by some of the greats from Hollywood last night at the Screen Actor’s Guild Awards. It seems that Heath touched so many through his on screen roles and through his personal friendships during his time there. He was known as very much a private person but I wonder if he knew just how much he was respected, admired and loved by his peers. This is a town well given to flashy and staged scenes of ’in memorium’ moments; but the emotional tributes last night showed just how sensitive a core Hollywood has and just how much people in the industry there can feel for each other.
To see people like Daniel Day Lewis dedicate his award to Heath was real ‘lump in the throat’ stuff - a young guy from Western Australia, unpretentious and living out his dreams of being a great actor being raised up and saluted by those he himself looked up to and admired, just a few short years ago, as a kid in high school. Now they are honoring him.
He succeeded beyond his wildest dreams and it’s a shame he is not here to enjoy it.
They luv ya Heath
