More tragedy for the people of Myanmar

A few months ago the world watched as protestors in Myanmar were arrested and even shot for daring to speak out and demonstrate against the military regime ruling that small country. The fact that many of those protestors were monks made the situation even more unbelievable.
Now the country ahs been hit once again by tragedy; a devastating cyclone has destroyed a large part of the southern region of Myanmar in the past week with the death toll alone reaching 100,000. Those injured and missing will most likely cause that toll to rise as more information comes to light.
What these people need is emergency aid; food, medical supplies and shelter - easy enough to organise however the Govt there are refusing to allow any aid from the West in. They don’t want Americans coming into the country.
As the world contributes to fund this aid for these stricken people the situation is becoming more frustrating by the day with the people of Myanmar wondering why the rest of the world has failed to come to their rescue. I wish there was a way to let those people know that the world is ready and waiting to come and help them. As I write this the first trucks and planes from nearby Thailand are arriving over the border - but this is a mere trickle.
One has to wonder what will happen to these emergency supplies once they arrive in Myanmar and if they will ever reach those people who need them - I think we all just need to keep donating what we can - and keep our fingers crossed that it makes one hell of a difference.
