Just imagine that you are stuck sitting in a window seat on this aircraft and for some reason the announcement is made for people to evacuate – and you are seated next to this man…
He cannot fit into his seat let alone the aisle and you have to wait behind him before you can make your escape. Before you accuse me of ‘fattism’ just imagine the implications of someone so large and cumbersome being caught in a similar situation. This picture was taken by an air stewardess recently on an American Airlines flight because she could not believe what she was seeing. How did they get the service trolley up the aisle for drinks…? and just how would you get past someone like this in an emergency…?
How did he fit in the loo…? it is not known whether he was asked to leave the aircraft but one question remains unanswered – Where’s the armrest….?

I think that you should have to carry a card from your doctor if you have a genuine reason for being that size. If not then either make other arrangements for your travel or if airlines are going to be expected to change their planes much the same way as car child seat makers have had to make bigger seats for obese kids (thats a child abuse whole other topic) then they will have tp pay more simple as that. If you smoke etc you have to pay more on your health ins premiums right? Personally I think that if you are “disabled” due to your own doing then you forfeit the right to be able to use things that normal people can use (sorry). Try seeing if they let you on the thunderlooper at six flags next time you’re there!
Joking apart though it IS a safety risk if there is an accident and one person should definitely not put the lives of a couple hundred others at risk for sure.
I know I would not like to be sitting beside this person in such an enclosed environment – it is not a case of being ‘anti fat-people’ it is all about safety and the event of an emergency. Okay, to be honest it would also be unpleasant to be squashed in with someone requiring so much personal space for themselves. Air travel is uncomfortable enough and obviously people this size have to make a choice if they intend to fly – lose weight or find another mode.
