You might think that living and owning your own hotel in the sunny south of France would be the ideal idyll – it can be you know, but it is not sunny ALL the time and being a hotel owner definitely has it’s drawbacks. I watch episodes of Fawlty Towers with a whole new perspective these days and I really do empathise with poor old Basil…
Before we left Belfast for France I had a nice comfy little job in Tesco involving a variety of customer service, front desk positions and most often checkouts; I liked my work there because you get to meet people, you’re nice and busy and you get to leave the job behind when your shift is finished. Not so with the hotel. There were times in France when I was up to my eyeballs in dirty bed linen, breakfast dishes and not-so-nice guests and that was when my mind would drift back to that job in Tesco…how easy it all seemed and why was I mad enough to leave it!
Anyway, I’ve applied for another position there and hope to start soon – the money will come in more than handy for Xmas going by the wish-list my children are drawing up!
