God this makes me so mad!
Take a look at these two-legged lard buckets sitting like sacks of potatoes on the breaking backs of those poor little donkeys…

Maybe she should be carrying the donkey on her back !
No seriously. I understand that there are parts of the world where the locals are poor and depend solely on tourist dollars; animals like these little donkeys are the way they feed their families and so they are nothing other than mere chattels.
But unfortunately the ignorant tourists encourage this cruelty by paying a small amount of local currency and getting on board for a ride – which not only makes them look like total plonkers in my opinion (like the woman pictured – or is it a man…?) but definitely displays the distress and discomfort of the animal.
Those poor little animals simply get worked until they drop. And it is not just in exotic foreign locations that this happens either. This was the same story in the UK where fat Mums and Dad’s placed their fat sons and daughter’s on the donkeys backs for rides at the seaside – with fat Mum and/or Dad hopping on for a ride themselves. There are now laws to stop this kind of thing – the weight of riders must be apportioned to that of the donkey.
It also happens in Spain where animals like donkeys are simply treated like dirt – just see what they do to the poor goats on certain festival days….
Now if you want to do something about this there is a charity which works to help, and often rescue, these lovely creatures who faithfully serve their owners until they are worn to exhaustion. The Brooke works to educate those in the poorest countries in ways to properly care for their working animals; feeding, rest, vet care…
