Cue the ‘ Rocky Theme ‘ !
I think that a musical introduction is worthy here as we are talking about the most anticipated re-match in boxing history. A year ago Oscar De La Hoya lost the bout against Floyd Mayweather Jnr on a very tight split decision and in May returned in his first boxing match in a year to take on fellow American Steve Forbes.
De La Hoya needed to win this much anticipated bout in order to set up the very lucrative rematch with Mayweather scheduled for September 20. There’s a huge amount of money and publicity at stake for this September spectacular but De La Hoya did what he needed to do and outpointed his opponent in eleven out of the twelves rounds on two of the judges cards with the third giving him the full twelve.
‘Pretty Boy’ Mayweather is regarded by all as the best pound for pound fighter in the middleweight boxing world while ‘Golden Boy’ De la Hoya is the sports biggest commercial drawcard today. Put the two together, as will be in September, and you have pure dynamite. Forget about settling scores - there’s more at stake here. This match will be a personal one and as each fighter knows his opponent all too well both are promising that this will be a match like no other.

De La Hoya has announced his plans to retire at the end of 2008 so will be looking for a win; the last bout between these two legends smashed all box office records when fans from everywhere rushed the Mayweather vs De La Hoya tickets. This return match is going to both set new records and break them at the same time. I suggest to anyone looking to be at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on the big night to purchase their tickets online from TeamOne as soon as possible to get the best seats and the best deals.
