Princess Diana once called her butler, Paul Burrell, ‘her rock’. He was the one man she trusted, the one man she knew she could rely on through thick and thin. Poor deluded woman. Paul Burrell has turned out to be a rather porous and crumbly piece of rock after he confessed at the inquest yesterday that he had secretly copied out personal letters and correspondance belonging to her and then sent them to the US. As appalling and underhanded a thing that it was to do, it has really come as no surprise to royal insiders. Apparently even Diana herself suspected that Mr Burrell was up to no good in the last years of her life; she even complained to a neighbour in Kensington Palace that she was considering dismissing Mr Burrell as she was well aware that he was rifling through her personal papers and possessions.
What a lowdown rat this man is. Ever since her death he has earned himself a fortune riding on the back of his time with her as her personal assistant and butler. He see’s himself as the only person who knew Diana better than anyone else and promoted himself, very successfully, as the ‘keeper of the flame’. I thought Diana’s sons were the only people qualified to do that!
The arrogance of the man is unbelievable; the dishonesty and treachery he is guilty of is shameful and beneath contempt. Diana, to him, was obviously his pension for the future. He saw his service to her as a way of ensuring his old age would not be spent forgotten and living ‘just getting by’. No member of the Royal staff have ever retired as millionaires as Mr Burrell has done. As he and his wife live in the lap of luxury in their strongly ‘gay community’ in Florida (not that there’s anything wrong with that) on the proceeds of telling the world about what a devoted and discreet employee he was to Diana – kind of contradictory eh? – that he was almost a pseudo husband to her and was the one and ONLY person qualified to speak about her, I hope they remember that had Diana not died life for them would be oh so different today.
