Children – the true meaning of Xmas

kidsWell, I have just about finished wrapping all the presents – a job that took several hours to put together and will take but a matter of minutes to come undone tomorrow morning. The kids are excited, I am excited, it is freezing outside, our Xmas eve dinner is just about ready to serve and the only thing left to worry about is how to get them all to go to sleep tonight! Xmas. I love it. And it just would not be the same without the one element that makes Xmas what it is…children.

‘Xmas is for children’ is what my Dad used to say and he was so right. Xmas is about hope, love, optimism and togetherness. I want to take this short moment to wish all of you who might drop by here this evening a very merry Xmas – and to all you parents who have worried about how to afford Xmas this year (and that includes most us…) just put all those worries to one side for this one day about to come up. Yes Xmas is expensive, yes it has become commercial…but that is our perspective – to our children it is the most magical time of the year. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if that kind of innocence lasted all their lives…?

Enjoy Xmas Day. Enjoy your children. Make memories and record them because they quite simply have to last a lifetime. As our children grow their memories will stay with them – as we parents grow older those memories will be something to cherish. But what I want to say is this more than anything…

Cherish your children.

Merry Xmas !
