So obscene child killer Ian Brady has won an appeal to review his right to end his ‘suffering’ and die in prison. Brady has, supposedly, been on a hunger strike for 14 years and is allegedly hooked up to a drip from which he is force-fed nutrients while he takes only tea and coffee. Those who have connections with Ashworth Prison in Liverpool, where he is held, say he eats when he wishes and that he rules the prison staff with an iron rod. One can imagine this is correct – given how prisoners rights have improved in the past two decades.
But Brady claims he is fed up with life and wants to die – he claims he is tortured by his existence and it is his right to end that torture. He not, however, tortured by his conscience…not that he has one. In this case Brady and Hindley should have hung over 45 years ago – they should have been strung up within minutes of the guilty verdicts being handed down. But they weren’t. We have the chance now though to make Brady pay for the rest of his life for what he did to those children by keeping him alive as long as possible. In this case, just this once, I say let him live. The devil wont mind waiting a little longer…
