Statistics that show our most vulnerable children are still being failed by violent parents and useless social workers.

An Ofsted report has revealed that 25 children have died in the UK in the past twelve months due to the failings of social services. Too many children are losing their lives because social workers refuse to listen to concerned relatives and neighbours. In the the majority of these cases it has been the grandparents who reported the abuse and yet their pleas for help for their grandchildren were not taken into account, or even seriously.

Ofsted assessed 67 serious case reviews  between April 1 and September 30 last year involving 93 children. Thirty-nine had died. Of the 93 children, 70 were known to social services. Twenty-five of these children died, including 4 who were subject to active child protection plans. Why are social services not listening to grandparents…why are they not listening to the non-custodial fathers of these children…?

Ultimately it is a parent’s job to care for and protect their child, in a perfect world we should not need a social services. But the fact is we have the RSPCA who act immediately and confiscate abused animals, but abused children are continually left to suffer a terrible fate at the hands of their abusers. Our Government goes to great lengths to look after the rights and welfare of prisoners and convicted terrorists but when it comes to vulnerable children they don’t want to know. Imagine if 25 prisoners died in custody last year – well, it just would not be allowed to happen would it…?

If only Sharon Shoesmith had put half as much effort into child protection as she does into her fight to clear her name…

The bureaucrat who stood at the head of the tragedy that befell baby Peter Connelly, Sharon Shoesmith, still incredibly refuses to accept any responsibility at all over the murder of  the 17-month-old baby. Last year a judge  ruled hat she was legitimately and legally dismissed from her job as head of children’s services at Haringey Council, North London, after it was revealed that a team of her social workers paid over 60 visits to the home of Peter Connelly in one year and yet failed to identify or address the abuse which was to kill him in 2007.

Sharon Shoesmith is now suing for more than £1 million in compensation for wrongful dismissal, and that is on top of her carefully protected £1.5 million pension pot. She has been doggedly working at clearing her name for the past three years, still refusing to accept any responsibility for heading a department which was unable to protect a defenceless little boy who needed help so badly.

How utterly tragic that she couldn’t have carried out her job to protect vulnerable children like baby Peter with the same tenacity and drive that she is putting into her own cause…

Peter Connelly and the birthday he should be having today

Happy birthday to little Peter Connelly who would have turned five today! on a day such as this a fifth birthday marks so many special milestones. No longer a toddler, definitely no longer a baby but a day which sees the end of five very important years and the beginning of a whole new stage in the life of a child. Here’s some balloons for you Peter!

When you turn five you are becoming a big boy – school is waiting to start you on your life of learning and discovery, lots of little friends to make and other birthday parties to go to. You might learn to ride a bike, get your first pair of football boots and everyday from this day on you will begin to see the world through different eyes and understand so many new things. We all wish so much you had been able to make it this far, to share in your own fifth birthday – put on your best party clothes and get all sticky eating your cake and have fun opening your presents. Instead you will have your party in heaven with so many of your other little friends who also did not get to have any more birthday parties – you will understand why. You have so many friends here who wish you all the best and hope that the angels make this day as special as we hope it would have been for you had you been here with us.

Happy birthday Peter XXX
