It is always tempting to save some money, sometimes alot of money, by buying second-hand rather than brand new. This applies to many different items, not just cars and clothes…

Unfortunately when a particular item is in great demand some unscrupulous people will go so far as creating counterfeit duplicates in order to capitalise on the market. This practice has spread especially into the computer supplies industry where the problem of fake used cisco is growing.

The industry is instigated in China and is being sold on places like Ebay - don’t fall for it even if you need to spend as little as possible. Fake products like this are proved to cause your equipment damage and will set you up for needing to outlay even more money in costly repairs later on.

  1. Hi, just a heads up that much of the Cisco product you have to be worried about from China is marketed as “New in Box” or “New Retail” or “New Open Box”. The Chinese scammers are rarely peddling their fake equipment as used.

Typically when you run into resellers offering used Cisco, they’ve bought it from another end-user or a leasing company and it’s totally Cisco original product. Companies like Vibrant (us) and Twin Cities Digital (the company you linked to) are dedicated to offering clients a genuine, quality, discount product all while extending the lifecycle of IT hardware.

Nonetheless, it’s really important to partner with a quality reseller to ensure you get a good product. There are sophisticated options like Vibrant and TCD and then there are hacks and scammers out there. The key is to find good partners in the Used Cisco world.

  2. Thanks very much for that information; nice to have some input from someone ‘in the know’.
I am sure those looking to purchase this product will be guided by your very helpful advice.

    Well done and thanks again!
