Australians mourn Don Lane

donlaneVery sadly Australia has lost one a legend of Australia’s golden era of night time variety television - Don Lane has died at the age of 75.

Along with Bert Newton Don created many moments of television history and just sheer bloody great entertainment. Night time television has never been the same since his show went off the air back in 1983 – countless Australian’s will remember sitting down on Thursday nights to watch his show and the stream of international artists who appeared.

Nobody will forget the appearance of skeptic/magician James Randy, or Medium Doris Stokes – and what about when the Osmonds appeared on the Wheel Segment and that very special evening when Sammy Davis Jnr sang and the show ran very overtime…

Don was suffering from Alzheimers Disease for the final years of his life. Read my previous articles about Don and Bert – a time when Australian television was at it’s very best.
