Not one of mine this time though – my cousin’s girl. She is 22 and has qualified as a fully trained nanny and is off to spread her wings and try out her hard-worked for skills on a family in the United States. It is interesting that Australian nannies are very highly regarded not just in the UK and USA but around the world, a friend of hers has just landed a post with an Italian family in Dubai so there lies a very interesting time ahead for her.
Lucy is off to North Carolina for two years to care for two little girls – twins – and she is naturally excited about what lies ahead for her. Mind you, I was the mother of two boys at her age. She has been busy organising the mountain of things that one needs to live abroad and in the US especially her health insurance has to be exactly right because she wont be earning huge amounts of money at the start. Lot’s of perks though. She had a good choice of plans, there are many too such as the Blue Cross NC which is very popular and well established. That’s one thing you do need to think about well in advance – your health cover – because being sick or injured away from home can be a daunting experience. Good luck Lucy!
