It has not been a good week for children…

The past week, or ten days to be more exact, have not been particularly good days in terms of child welfare in the UK. A total of four small children have all died from being harmed in one way or another – and all at the hands of a parent.

We had the little girl, Alia Ahmad Jama, 3, who was killed by ingesting acid forcibly – her mother has been charged with her murder. Then the heart-wrenching case of yet another child killed in an attempted murder-suicide by a father; five year old Gabrielle Grady (below) and her brother Ryan were pulled from the car after their father had driven it into the river Avon. Ryan had been rescued in time but Gabrielle took longer – she held on but died a couple of days later. The father, Chris Grady, has been charged with 2 counts of attempted murder.

Another little girl 2 year old Jasmine Bellfield, has been found dead in her home in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire today. The mother has been charged with her murder. This place was made infamous as it was the home of Shannon Matthews, who was abducted by her mother and her relative.

And poor little Jackson Taylor, nine, whose own brother stabbed him to death last night. His eighteen year old sister was also attacked  while trying to protect him but survived. Jackson is said to be from a very dysfunctional family whose house was often visited by police.

Just another week in Great Britain…

On second thoughts…

I have just been thinking that while I am dosing up the family here in Northern Ireland with some good ol’ vitamin D until the summer arrives, my son in Germany could well do with some of the same. He is living in the very far north where it has been freezing and blizzardy and he too has had his share of coughs and colds. He is a warm weather boy Aussie-born and bred too…

I don’t think he would know what he would look for so I am going to buy him a supply and send it off – there are sites which seem to stock everything in this line such as www.supplementing.com but at first I think I need to have a packet in my hand to read instructions and all that.

The only thing these vitamins would not do I guess is give you a sun tan as well!

I’m missing the sunshine Mum!

beachWoe is me – woe is very me at the moment. I am not doing well with all this winter weather; all this snow, rain, cold and grey skies. I’m an Aussie girl and I need sunshine, sand and the sea!

I’ve had a touch of bronchitis lately which is now giving me some sleepless nights so it will be off to get some more antibiotics from the doc this coming week, and I hate having to take drugs. What I am going to do to get me through this dreary weather until May/June is buy a vitamin D diet supplement so that I can get some of the essential vitamin that I think my body desperately needs.

I’ve seen them supplied at the chemists in an olive oil solution – they look like little amber pearls so in fact I am going to dose the whole family up and get us all feeling a lot brighter. Oh for a long, sunny, sandy beach…
