I was heartened to see how many people out there took the time out to spare a thought for all those children who never managed to live long enough to celebrate their first, second, third or subsequent Xmas’s. There are so many out there: those children who have been dealt the unfairness of serious illness, those children who were caught in circumstances beyond their control and lost their lives in tragic accidents…and those poor children who had the bad luck to be simply born to the wrong people. People who never had an ounce of love or care for their own child.

There are so many of them, sadly far too many for us to remember each and every one of these children whose lives were so easily within our scope to rescue but it seems baby Peter Connolly has become the torch for all of these children. Many of you remembered him and many of you took the time to visit his memorial (above) at the cemetery where his ashes were scattered; in remembering him you remember all those children whose lives and tragic fates were determined by the most basic act of all…their birth.
I certainly hope 2010 sees the lives of our most vulnerable children changed for the better. We can always hope…

Well, I have just about finished wrapping all the presents – a job that took several hours to put together and will take but a matter of minutes to come undone tomorrow morning. The kids are excited, I am excited, it is freezing outside, our Xmas eve dinner is just about ready to serve and the only thing left to worry about is how to get them all to go to sleep tonight! Xmas. I love it. And it just would not be the same without the one element that makes Xmas what it is…children.
And what people had to say…
