Back to a ‘real’ job means wearing shoes…

I have been working at Tesco for three weeks now and sometimes I have to pinch myself to make myself realise that I am back there again; I worked there in 2003 for a year before we went to France to buy a hotel. That seems so long ago when in fact it was only six years – but it has been a past six years spent being my own boss and what a six years it certainly was. When we left here in January 2004 it was supposed to be a long-term thing but here we are back again and settled in – nothing could make me budge from here for a long time!

Yeah I miss our hotel, especially the summers when I would get around my work in bare feet because basically I am not a shoe person. Those were the days. Now I have to wear them in this job so I am looking around at brands like Cole Haan for a comfortable pair that are flat but also nice looking. There’s another thing I have to get used to – wearing a uniform again – in France it was so warm during the spring and summer, even into autumn, that it was dresses all the time.

What little girl dosen’t want a pony?

My cousin sent me a photo taken recently of her little girl, aged seven, in her new riding outfit. Sky is really into everything equestrian and is taking classes in dressage already and she is the proud owner of a beautiful little piebald pony. I really wanted a pony when I was a kid, the yearning hit me when I turned ten as it does with many young girls.

Dad would take us trail riding at a place called Oxford Falls and I used to see the kids who actually owned their horses walking around in their breeches and those wonderful boots…oh how I coveted a pair of those boots. But I never got into horsey things that far due to the fact that one of the horses threw me and ran over me one time – I became a bit aprehensive around them after that. I still adore those beautiful creatures and am trying to summon up the courage to go horseriding again…I hear it is like falling off a bike.
