The Irish O’lympics…just for a laugh

I have just read a very good bio of the comedian Spike Milligan and went looking on YouTube for some of his best moments. I love the man and saw him in performance in Sydney back in 1980 – so funny. But his genius came at a price too, as it does with all true comics.

But this clip is brilliant…

An online orchestra?…what would Beethoven think!

When Beethoven was working hard at creating incredible masterpieces he seemed to have enjoyed the perfect working environment. Back in his day there were none of the annoyances that modern day composers have to contend with…a dripping bathroom faucet, the telephone, traffic noise – or a dodgy computer connection.

The great man wrote it all down on paper without the help of notation software or ‘playback’. How times have changed. Even the world of orchestral playing is about to change direction when YouTube broadcast a performance of the world’s first online orchestra – the YouTube Symphony Orchestra!

Each of the musicians have auditioned online via YouTube and have been selected by YouTube subscribers and this remarkable project will feature musicians from all around the globe. Once again this proves that music seems to be the only medium under which people of all races, creeds and cultures can come together in perfect harmony.

The orchestra will perform a unique composition by composer Tan Dun - “Internet Symphony No. 1, Eroica”.  It sounds fascinating and I am looking forward to hearing this. I wonder what Beethoven would make of it all…

Some pretty music to enjoy…

Here’s a lovely little excerpt called “Forever Beneath the Waves” - composed by Phillip Wilcher and played by pianist Jeanell Carrigan. I love the way Jeanell handles the shape of this piece, as always Phillip’s wonderful music is in the best hands.

Enjoy :)
