The one thing I really love about being back here in Northern Ireland is that no matter where you live you are only a few minutes drive from the most glorious scenery. Even if you live near the city, Belfast, the countryside is just a ten minute drive in some directions.
Another aspect is the close proximity to mainland England and that is where I feel the travelbug in me pulling me towards next. We want somewhere to go for Easter – we spent it in Edinburgh once before – but I am loving the idea of a drive around the Cornish region this time around.
This area is commonly known as ‘Hardy Country’ as the author Thomas Hardy wrote so beautifully about this part of England in his novels; if you love his works you would love this area.
They haven’t spoken olde Cornish for years there but traces of Cornish remain and the language is hopefully looking at being revived, the culture of the people in Cornwall is as rich as the green countryside and pretty coastline.

If you get your hands on a good map you can follow well organised trails and you could be forgiven for leaving the car and doing lots of walking. There is a great choice of B&B’s and Luxury Cottages Cornwall style – this wont turn out to be a cheapish break of course as Cornwall has become quite upmarket in recent years. But it’s worth it.
Cornwall even has Prince Charles as it’s own Duke and it’s own pasty – what more could you want?
