What we want to see in 2009!

* Social Workers in the UK - saving childrens lives rather than regretting them…

* NHS Hospitals - reinstalling the ‘Matron System’, rolling their sleeves up and cleaning their wards and above all else…SHOWING PATIENTS THE COMPASSION THEY DESERVE!

* NHS (again) - LESS hospital Administrators and MORE nurses, midwives and FUNDING!

* The Elderly - respect, simple respect. Don’t whinge about the credit crunch – they fought two world wars and survived on bread and dripping. They’ve seen it all and more.

* Welfare - an end to the army of teenage pram-pushers; no cash after the first child; a work-for-the-dole scheme – get the lazy spongers off their backsides, off our taxes and onto sweeping the streets…ANYTHING!!

* Amy Winehouse - healthy, drug-free and back to her best…minus Blake Fielder-Civil.

* The Back of George Bush – enough said

* Barack Obama - following through and showing the world it ain’t all hype

* Dame Helen Mirren - she just gets better…what woman doesn’t admire her?

* Patrick Swayze - a full recovery and nothing less please God

* Money - ‘ours’ and back in our pockets where it belongs.

* City Financiers - fighting the pidgeons for crumbs in Trafalgar Square

* Osama Bin Laden - his ugly mug on the end of a noose

* Robert Mugabe - ditto as for Bin Laden and…

* Love - a huge increase in couples getting married, massive decline in divorce and babies being born WANTED for themselves and not as a benefits-ticket.

Six hours and forty-five minutes to go…

New Years Eve Sydney-style!

Sydney has been one of the first cities to ring in 2009 with another spectacular fireworks display and a massive all-in party. The show started at 9pm with a fireworks show designed for the families with littlies and then the BIG ONE blasts off bang on midnight.

I saw in 2000 right under the Bridge at The Rocks and have never forgotten the atmosphere and excitement that makes Sydney THE place to be on New Years Eve. Once again I say to the world…BEAT THAT ONE, GUYS!

HAPPY NEW YEAR AUSTRALIA !!!!

Three weeks and counting…

Until we wave ‘bye bye’ to France and move back into our much-missed home in Belfast. It hasn’t only been the logistics of moving all our stuff back to another country but there has been alot of consideration given to what employment options we will have when we settle back in.

Arnold has been on a career break from the civil service while we have been in France and intends to return but has been looking also at jobs in IT in the private sector. There’s no argument that being very highly qualified can get you better pay in the private sector – but you have to also consider job security at a time when people are losing their jobs.

When we moved here Arnold was happy to leave the public service – now we are quietly thankful that the option to return is still there.
