Not a week for good news

It certainly hasn’t. On the weekend yet another father in the UK murdered his children and before killing himself. These incidents have all one thing in common – the parents are either seperated or divorced and the Dad’s had all prior expressed frustration and anger over their unfair treatment at the hands of the Family Court.

Not enough is known about this latest murder/suicide but it involved two little girls – aged one and three – and the father called his ex-partner to let tell her what he was about to do to their children. It makes you wonder just how a supposedly loving parent can do such a thing to their own children – especially when spite and vindictiveness is behind the act. Guys, this is no way to get revenge on anybody.

School Massacre in Finland:

You rarely hear any news coming out of Finland so it really shakes you when it does and it involves a gunman slaying school students. Finland, like Scandinavia, is a relatively safe place to live and the Fin’s I have met this year have all told me how easy going their society is. Ten students are so far counted as being dead – let’s hope that the number does not climb any higher. This is the second such incident to happen in Finland this year.

Terrorists strike again in Pakistan and bring back memories:

Another bomb blast in Pakistan has killed and maimed people at the plush Marriot Hotel; this one was huge and left an enormous crater in the car park. This rekindles personal memories for us; in 2002 a relative of mine was one of the eleven French Engineers who were killed when a suicide bomber blew up a bus in Karachi. Jacques was a lovely, wonderful man and this all just brings it not only for us but especially his wife and children.

Meet Neanderthal woman – come to think of it I’ve seen her before!

Take a look at this picture: this is how scientists have reconstructed ‘Wilma’ - and they say she is what neanderthal woman looked like thousands of years ago. But hang on – haven’t I seen that face before…?

Anyone who has seen the Jeremy Kyle Show, or for that matter Jerry Springer, will instantly recognise this face – it could have belonged to any of his female guests!

But I reckon Wilma is the spitting image of Karen Matthews - mother of Shannon Matthews. See what you think…

But I reckon the similarities stop there; I bet Wilma would have cared for her own offspring far better than than Ms Matthews and her ilk ever did.

Gyms go hi-tech these days

One thing I have noticed about gym’s these days is how complicated the darn equipment is to negotiate. I remember when going to the gym was uncomplicated and one did not have to worry about whether one was wearing the appropriate attire. But even gym ‘fashions’ change on a regular basis too…

You used to wear a tracksuit (usually grey/pink/light blue) or a basic leotard – black – and if you were a bit shy about your size (as most of us women are) you wore your husband’s t-shirt over the top. Then leotards went multi-coloured and shiny-metallic; then in came the leggings and bike pants tights – which were great until you saw women wearing them around the shopping centres…

Then came the ‘must have’ footwear. No longer could you get away with normal, everyday ‘sandshoes’ – it had to be Nike, Reebok or something similar which cost half a weeks wages.  Then those hideous headbands thanks to the movie Flashdance.

But what really has changed is the gym equipment. In place of treadmills you now have things called ellipticals; the bikes are all computerised and you need a degree in computor programming to work out how to set the bloody things!

I once pedalled laboriously for twenty minutes on a bike which I thought was preset by the last person to the ‘multiple hills’ setting – until the gym assistant came over and told me it would work better if the bike was plugged in

I gave up at that point – doing sit ups suddenly looked so much more attractive.
