Painters NOT needed !

There must be a severe shortage of work in the house painting industry right now as this morning we have said ‘No’ to the latest in a long line of painters knocking on our door asking us if we want a quote for painting our building.

As soon as we see a white van with a ladder on it’s roof now we try our best to make like we are not home…but those guys are very dedicated to knocking on every door, window and even the exterior shutters!

We actually have already started painting the outside and are halfway through the job – do these guys not notice this at all? so why would you down tools halfway throught the job and then pay someone else several thousand pounds to do what was only costing you a fraction of that??

I know it’s early but…planning Xmas yet ?

It dosen’t seem that long ago that I was pondering on where for us all to go for Xmas 2007; looking back it was actually last July ! God, how time flies !!

Well, we all ended up in Valencia, Spain, for the Xmas week and I recounted the nightmare that made up the first 12 hours of that trip so this year I am determined that our Xmas break will be a complete success. I know it is still only June - keeping in mind though that we have just over 24 weeks till Xmas itself (aaahhhh!!) - but already I have decided that we are going to try and get out to Australia for Xmas 2008. And I’m looking forward to it!

My relatives are on full alert as they haven’t seen me for six years and I have two new young nephews for my sister who is waiting with baited breath to get her arms around them both.  Unlike recent trips we don’t have to worry about accommodation as my sister threatens to disown me if we do not stay with her (actually she wants the kids more than she wants me and the man) but logistics such as airfares and transport will no doubt provide the usual stress.

The visit will also give me a chance to update my passport and take care of some other minor details such as my medicare card needing renewing; having that is a plus point for me while I am abroad as I can use it as a form of medical insurance should an emergency arise anywhere.  Hard to believe that when it was issued to me ten years ago the idea of ever travelling out of Australia was almost an impossible dream – funny how life changes direction.

Donald Trump finds his roots

Donald trump recently took time out from a business trip in Scotland to visit his mother’s ancestral home on the Isle of Lewis.

The Scottish Isles are a windy place at the best of times but it looks as though the elements put on a special show for The Trump…personally I think someone up there has a bit of a sense of humour – look at his hair !!

One word of advice Trumpy; when going in search of one’s roots make sure you keep hold of the few that you already have…

Especially in places with gale warnings !

Not long ago I gave my Kiss for Life Award to actor Paul Newman; not just for services to the movie industry and various charities but for services to that rarest thing in Hollywood – the long and happy marriage.  But now we all need to say a prayer for Paul as he is battling lung cancer and is not too well these days. Despite the fact he is 84 he still cuts it as a great looking man but has had to retire due to his failing memory. Of course wife Joanne Woodward is right there supporting her man – as she always has done. Lets hope this golden couple get to celebrate many more anniversaries to come.
