Justice for the victims of Omagh

It is hard to believe that it is ten years in August since the horrific terrorist bombing of the small Northern Ireland town of Omagh. And ten years on the surviving victims and those family members of the people who lost their lives are still looking for justice for the havoc and tragedy this terrible event wreaked on their lives.

Thirty-one people were killed and many more maimed and yet no-one has yet been convicted for this crime. The families of the victims have had to resort to suing the five Real IRA men known to be responsible for the bombing for damages. The case has begun in Belfast; the evidence will be shown in all it’s graphic horror and all those people, and the police, will have to once again relive that dreadful day with all it’s painful memories.

Let’s hope that the outcome will a positive one for them all. No amount of compensation will repair the damage but someone has to pay for what they did.

Science fiction and todays workplace

If you are old enough to remember have a think way back to the days of those old Buck Rogers movies you saw at the afternoon matinees – didn’t you marvel at those old fashioned visual effects which featured Buck talking face to face to the Emperor of the Planet Mongo on that big black and white screen? and what about that episode of Back to the Future where Marty McFly of the future is fired by his boss via a huge screen in his living room…did you ever dream that such technology would eventually be a reality?

These days corporations use video conferencing products based upon the same principles; video conferencing is well established in the workplace now using very high definition technology. Just as many of those high tech innovations in the old Star Trek shows have now become a part of our everyday lives, those special effects wizards from the old days of Hollywood provided the inspiration for the many things we use today that we all seem to take for granted.
