It’s Saint Patricks Day!

It’s a great day for the Irish!…so say the words of that well known song. And it is true, St Patricks Day always brings out a bit of cheer and those of us who have even just the teensiest drop of Irish blood in us always feel like celebrating in some way. How do you like my cheeky wee leprechaun…? I reckon St Patrick would have a laugh at him too.

The biggest parade in the world might be in New York but if you really want to do it the genuine way then head, not to Dublin (even though we all love Dublin ) but to the town of Downpatrick in Northern Ireland.  This is where Patrick built his first church in Ireland (at nearby Saul ) and where his bones are said to be buried in the grounds of the Downpatrick Cathedral. The grave is right underneath a huge boulder now as pilgrims from the past were taking handfuls of soil away with them.

This is a lovely town in a lovely part of the world; the ancient seat of the High Kings of Ulster and is steeped in legend and Christian heritage.  The surrounding countryside is just magical, the people are warm and friendly and there is a fantastic little fish and chip shop across from the Cathedral. One place you must visit is the St Patrick Centre; it has a wonderful interactive exhibition, lots to see and learn about the Saint himself as well as a gift shop and restaurant.

Go and enjoy some real craic for the day, and yes, they really do serve green ale on this special day!

Then again there is always Oahu!

Let’s keep looking at Hawaii for a moment because I know that a lot of people, especially from the European side of the world, consider this special place to be the trip of a lifetime. Not just because it is a fair distance from this side but it tends to have that mystical quality about it. So many people have seen Hawaii on the TV, and in films, and yet only ever dream about going there for a vacation.

Most of us are familiar with Oahu but if your knowledge only extends to what you have seen in a few travel programmes you can learn a bit more by having a look at a Hawaii Travel Blog. This is the best way to gather some facts about this great vacation destination.

Now, what you will be wanting for your trip there is somewhere exceptional to stay so why not consider choosing from a wonderful selection of Oahu vacation rentals ? the great thing about this option are the sheer choice of locations within Oahu and all offer close proximity to the shopping, restaurants and entertainment plus that island atmosphere that Hawaii is so well known for.

Tempting…? well as I have said, check out the blog mentioned above and equip yourself with as much Oahu Vacation Information as possible then simply decide which beautiful property will suit your needs the best.

Ahhh, the sounds of spring!

It has been a long time coming but I think we can honestly say that spring has finally arrived. And it looks like it will be a lovely one at that. It’s always amazing how one day the weather can be so atrocious and the next…made in heaven. I always love the sounds of those very first birds trying out their new notes, and those brand new green buds on the trees. Those same buds will grow into leaves and cause me many headaches come autumn but who cares…spring, bring it on!

Maddie McCann in Sydney…?

There are very few places in Europe where missing British child Madeline McCann has not been sighted since she disappeared from Portugal last year – sadly those sightings are always false alarms and only cause even more heartbreak for her parents. But the latest sighting has been, in all places, Sydney Australia. Another false alarm though – it was simply a father carrying his little girl through a shopping arcade in the city. But the poor guy was surrounded by police within seconds of the ‘alarm’ being raised and must have wondered what was going on. At least it is good to know that the Aussies are keeping an eye out for this little girl. We all want to know what has happened to her.
