The fun’s over for the Civil Serf

Did anyone get a look at the blog hosted by the mysterious Civil Serf? I didn’t but would love to have been able to, unfortunately the site has now been deleted on orders of the British Govt. Wow! what on earth did she ever say?

A while ago it was decided that employees in the civil service could use their workplace computers for limited personal use however using it to host a blog where you effectively write about the goings-on behind the scenes of Govt and administration has to fall into another category.

All the same, the employee developed a cult following – I can understand why – and has since been suspended. I would love to have cottoned on sooner being the partner of an ex-civil service employee myself; we are both miffed at missing out on all the dirt. You have to wonder though just where the writers of ‘Yes Prime Minister’ got all their material from…?

Succession in the workplace

It’s interesting to see just how far things have progressed in the modern day workplace, and you would note this especially if you have been a stay at home mother for, say, 15-20 years.

That’s a long time I know, but many women do take this amount of time off once they begin a family and I wonder just how many get a bit of a shock when they return to an office/corporate world environment after a break of so-many years. I remember even from just about ten years ago how the promotion process went; you grovelled to the boss or waited to see who was on the list for when promotion time came around. These days they have software to co-ordinate a succession plan in the corporate world.

While this is all new to me it just shows how much technology is influencing even the most basic workplace structures in the 21st century.

American people pay a heavy price for Iraq

Well, while we wonder at the mentality of Tony Blair most have made up their mind about that of George W. Apart from his WMD claims ( hello – the US has none itself…?) W began the whole sorry mess under the guise of bringing peace.

All it has achieved is breeding violence out of violence; the country has been broken into a million pieces with absolutely no idea of how the nation will ever be put back together again. It’s not like a child’s game…okay kids, clean up your mess and then we can go home. What has happened in Iraq will take several generations of repair, and it has not even begun the first stage yet!

W must be grabbed by the neck and presented with the fact that we cannot impose our values on the Iraqi people; democracy and peace for these people cannot be imposed down the barrel of a gun. And the American people…?

So far this conflict has cost the Americans between 3 and 4 trillion dollars…funny, it seems there is always enough money to spare for killing.
