My New Years resolution to get fitter this year is going along in fits and starts but at least I have stuck to some of my promises to self. I have rediscovered the tennis court and have managed to keep at the twice weekly games and I have been getting in my daily 30 minute walk; when I don’t I reassure my conscience that my trips up and down the stairs in the course of a day make up for it. The little voice in me says ‘hmmm’ to that though…
I’m happy with my diet though; I have always gone in bigtime for the fruit and veg and rarely eat red meat – I prefer chicken. In the summer just about every meal is a lovely big salad and I love to combine fruit with meat as it aids digestion. Hang on…I’m sounding like a health expert now! my favourite meal though in the summer is a salad combining the usual green stuff but also including peaches, nectarines, avocado and chicken. I grill the chicken in some paprika or cajun and it’s delicious! Toss it all together on a plate and voila!
Some people really go in for the inner-health thing though don’t they? I have a cousin who was into regular colonics way before Princess Diana made them popular. I suppose there’s something to be said for them though these days when every second person seems to be dying of colon cancer and every other person complains about bloating. Certainly makes for interesting conversation in the office…’have you had your colon cleanse today?’
No I’m not making fun of it as I knew some people who succumbed to colon/bowel cancer; of course remember that diet plays a big part in this – lot’s of fresh veg and fruit and go easy on the red meat. We very rarely think about what’s happening on the inside until it starts to bother us…or embarrass us.
