William’s going places

My son is certainly doing well for himself back in Australia. He has a job collecting shopping trolleys at the local shopping complex on the weekends – no mean feat as this place is absolutely enormous. He has enlisted with the Army Reserves and gets a tax free pay packet at the end of each month and this past week was accepted for an apprenticeship in sheet metal fabrication. He’s going to be a busy boy over the coming months and just serves to  prove that there is plenty of work around for the young if they want it.

Meanwhile on the home front…

He’s at it again, Patrick I mean, and in the kitchen. My territory has been well and truly invaded. His cheesecake the other day turned out brilliantly, last night he made souffle – successfully! and tonight he is cooking us fresh tuna seared with tomatoe and garlic…and stuffed aubergines on the side. He’s making me very proud and is turning out great stuff – I have to admit though the process is sometimes a painful one. Advice is only welcomed when strictly asked for though.

Gold is a girls best friend

I have been dropping rather subtle hints these past few years about a specific item I would love to receive on:

* my birthday

* Mother’s Day

* Christmas

* Valentines Day

but I suspect I am going to have to get more tactful; I would love a nice gold bangle to wear on my wrist. I have nice watch, some lovely necklaces and earrings but so far that one little piece of jewelry has eluded me. Never mind though, we women are nothing if not inventive. Maybe if I leave some little notes with the words Jewel Elegance lying around a certain someone will get the idea.

Maybe I will even score a few other nice gifts into the bargain! Well, we can only try.

Making my wish list…

Apology Accepted

On February 13th Australian PM Phillip Rudd made a formal apology to the indigenous people of Australia for the wrongs suffered by them in the past at the hands of past Govt policies.  It was very successful, created a good feeling unification and was undoubtedly instrumental in marking a step forward for Australia as a mature nation. This paves the way for even better reconciliation between our past and our future and between all Australians – indigenous and non.

Of course, a part of the ceremony was blighted in some way by the way members of the Labor Party did the back turning thing as Opposition Leader Brendan Nelson delivered his reply to the Prime Minister. Unfortunately we obviously still have a little work to do; Nelson may not have echoed the PM’s sentiments exactly but he did stand to represent the thoughts and views of other members of the population – we are a democracy do not forget!

However this event has been a long time in coming and now it has happened. Let’s ensure it will never need to be repeated.
