MySpace fills a social gap

Who are those young jokers in the picture there you might ask? Well, actually that’s my son Will (second from left) and his mates at home in Australia. He’s got a wide circle of friends does my son and ever since he returned to Oz he has been having the time of his life. Hmmm, not sure that’s such a good thing knowing my boy…but anyway he is one of the many people that keeps a page at MySpace and he has used that to widen his circle of friends.

You can say what you like about these social networking sites but, if used responsibly, can serve a positive purpose. There are a lot of people who cannot leave the house for reasons of health or whatever and by simply creating a page of their own can ‘meet’ other people and chat with them. It fills a gap in the lives of those who would otherwise be very lonely. Looking at some of the pages and pics some people have created can be quite interesting.

But parents be warned…approach your own childs page with an open mind – believe me it may not be for the faint hearted!

Britney Spears and the long road ahead

So now the latest chapter in the sad saga of Britney Spears has seen her finally being sectioned and placed in a hospital. Of course the media are having a field day over all this with some even stooping so low as to say she has been committed to an asylum. Talk about compromising their ethical standards. She is in a clinic and it is about time.

This poor woman has been under constant bombardment by photographers ever since she started to behave so erratically. It seems that there was no movement she made that was not accompanied by a barrage of cameras, each photographer battling with the next to be there in case she did something even stranger than before or worse, even more harmful to herself.

There is a thing called tough love and this is what was called for in her case from her family. At the start people in her condition always accuse their loved one’s of being the people who are most against them when in fact they are trying to do what is best for them. You have to be cruel to be kind in the beginning but she will find that in time she will see their actions as one’s of love. The  alternative is utter tragedy.
