Health and Safety Policies Tesco-style

In yet another public relations disaster UK retail giant, Tesco, has now banned Xmas Carols from being played live by bands and singers to shoppers.

Recently at the Blackpool store shoppers were enjoying listening to a performance by the Guardian Concert Band, who play for charity, and their rendition of Xmas songs. They had only played four songs, to a very happy and appreciative crowd, when a security guard appeared and told them their time was up. ‘Pack up and leave’ in other words.

When questioned, the security person said the Tesco store manager had ordered the move owing to ‘health and safety regulations’ as they were causing ‘congestion’. These players were playing in the foyer, not creating a general traffic jam, but that was not good enough for the PC brigade that just about rules our lives these days.

What kind of ‘health and safety issue’ can a band create?.

Have you ever tried pushing one of Tesco’s trolleys around their supermarket and pulled a back muscle becuase the darn thing wont go in the right direction?. Now THERE’S a health and saftey issue!.

In future it seems Tesco’s shoppers will have to listen to taped Xmas carols and not the real thing. What a shame.

Merry Xmas from Tesco?…bah humbug!.
