As the Inquest begins, the interest wanes

As the Mohammed Al Fayed inspired inquest into the self-inflicted deaths of Diana, Princess of Wales, and Dodi Al Fayed, continues the much anticipated public interest in the whole thing seems to be waning.  And for good reason. Unlike Mr Al Fayed Snr, the majority of us are now accepting that Diana and her friends that night died because of tragic circumstances, accidental circumstances. Circumstances that resulted from their own misjudgement and irresponsibility.

Mr Al Fayed Snr continues to claim that Dodi was going to propose marriage to Diana; how does he know this?. What did Dodi say to him in the days leading up to this accident for him to make such claims?. He claims that Diana was pregnant with Dodi’s child; how would he have such intimate knowledge of the couple’s sex life, Diana’s reproductive system and it’s condition at her time of death, especially as she was known to be have been taking The Pill during her time with Dodi?. As they exclusively used accommodation owned and provided by Mr Al Fayed Snr I would not be at all surprised if he had used some technology to spy on them…to keep tabs on Dodi’s progress wih his ‘assignment’.

It seems to me that Mr Al Fayed Snr, more than Dodi, was the one truly obsessed with ‘claiming’ Diana. I bet if he had been 30 years younger he’d have had a go.  But it all went wrong. Not just for poor Dodi, who obviously had developed true feelings for Diana even though it is well known she was using him to get back at Dr Hasnat Khan and Prince Charles. But it all went wrong for Mr Al Fayed Snr; whose dreams of a Princess Diana in his family went up in smoke that night in Paris 1997. It might have done you well, Mr Al Fayed, to have realised that your son was not courting just ‘any’ woman that summer. He was courting the most famous woman in recent history. And she deserved better protection that night, much better than what you and your son offered her.

Anyway, the Pont d’Alma tunnel has since become a mecca of sorts for tourists worldwide. Even I braved the wild traffic a while back for a photo op.

Footnote: Having seen the route into that tunnel and the way the road is built at such close range, I am not surprised that their car met it’s end the way it did. Entering that tunnel at such high speed, as their driver Henri Paul did,  is quite a simply suicidal act.

A Clear and Concise Home Improvement Blog

Home renovation, home improvement and do-it-yourself are subjects these days of countless tv shows. I have watched many of them – well, they are good entertainment – and one thing that always strikes me is how the presenters of these shows always make out how easy and uncomplicated home renovation is. Well, I have watched these shows, taken notes and tried the hints suggested…there is always a catch of some kind and whatever I have tried to copy never works out in reality.

As more and more people these days are looking to save money by doing their own home improvements it is always great to be able to find clear and helpful advice by people who have ‘been there and done that’. The way to do that these days is to look to the internet, not the tv, for advice. You will want to know that those dishing out the facts have actually rolled up their sleeves and gotten their hands dirty. Have you seen those presenters on those ‘lifestyle’ shows?. They never get a stain on them and never use any real elbow grease. That’s where the difference lies.

At the moment we are carrying out some DIY on our own property in various forms so I have been checking out a few blogs specifically a Home Improvement Blog relating to this subject; one in particular I have come across is Improvement Web and have been really impressed with not only the advice, both in practical and theoretical terms, but the uncomplicated layout of the site.  For a start, I actually like the ‘homogenous’ layout of the homepage – the page you hit on straightaway. By this I mean there is no fancy text; no hideous colours or surreal designs. I actually like this in a site that is offering practical advice. The site is not overcrowded either so there are no unnecessary distractions to the visitor; I cannot stand constant pop-ups and the appearance of a site being ‘ad central’. This is a site that even the girls could follow, and to me that’s a bonus because we ladies are usually the instigators behind renovating our homes. Not only that, but more of us are actually doing the work!.

I see that all the important and pertinent subjects for the home DIY’er are covered; bathroom remodeling especially as nearly everyone looks to update their bathroom at some stage. Flooring; many of us have bought a ‘renovation project’ at a bargain basement price and one of the first things that needs replacing is the flooring. The topic is covered well with no information overload – just facts and choices to consider.  Cleaning gutters is a job that the blog acknowledges no-one likes, or wants, to do, but how to go about that icky task is well explained here. Even I feel confident about getting up the ladder now!. This topic, again, is well covered and I applaud this. One reason is because I come from Australia where clogged up guttering can really be a safety issue when it is fire-hazard season, and the need to keep them clear and uncluttered is important. It is not just a matter of climbing up and giving them a sweep; you really have to do the job properly. And lets face it, there’s nothing really scary up there is there?.

One important aspect of DIY these days is installing replacement windows.  Installing the right window system nowadays can really benefit your home, as we have found. The right window feature can save you money on electricity; lighting and offers solid security. If you are looking to replace your old windows heed the advice here as there is a good list of what to look for and what to do. Choice is important in this category.

Looking around for advice here I have found that all the subjects relating to home DIY are contained in easy to find and navigate categories with a nice selection of links provided. All relative to the subject of home improvement.

Divorce settlements – how much is NOT enough?.

It is always sad when a marriage ends in divorce and especially sad when it is a marriage that lasted as long as 25 years. We are always reading these days about celebrities and high profile business people breaking up and are often aghast at the astronomical divorce settlements involved.

Mega-wealthy Australian golfer Greg Norman and his, now, ex-wife Laura recently fought out a bitter divorce case in the courts where Laura was awarded an astonishing $300,000,000 settlement. That makes her almost a billionaire, and if she invested wisely, a billionaire in a short matter of time as well.

Here’s the unbelievable part: Laura has taken Greg back to court claiming that her payout was not enough!.  Not enough!!. In what possible way?. Now given, this divorce has all the characteristics of the bitter breakdown; Greg Norman left his wife for that old warhorse Chris Evert, herself a divorcee and one that’s been around the paddock a fair bit too. The Norman’s marriage lasted 25 years and understandably Laura was not happy at being traded in, especially for an older model.

She had the publics sympathy before but I wonder now about that. Yes I will agree that after supporting a man for a quarter of a century, being not only his wife but his business partner in the various high earning Norman ventures plus bearing him children, she definately deserved to be awarded a good chunk of their shared assets. But the amount of money she received surely more than compensated her for her lost marriage. There is no doubt that she will continue to maintain her lifestyle, she wont have to worry about clothing and feeding the kids and she will now count as one of the worlds wealthiest women. So why the need for more money?.

Maybe bitterness has much to do with it, and I cannot blame her for wanting to make him ‘pay’. But if I was her I would take that money and use it to make one hell of a success of myself.  If she wants to get even with him she should bear in mind that saying…’the best way to get even is to get successful’. It may not bring him crawling bak on his hands and knees, but the important thing is she should be able to hold her head high and make him realise just what he has lost.
