England Invades France!.

Well, on the rugby field anyway. And today is the big day for all rugby fans both English and French as the two nations go head to head in Paris in the World Cup Semi Final. We all know that there is no love lost between the English and the French, it is the same between the English and the Australians; and last week the Wallabies lost out to the Poms in Marseille. I say we ‘lost out’ because the Poms only won that match through penalty goals, we scored a try, they didn’t. They won off our mistakes. OK, that’s my whinge over and done with about that.

But as much as I would love to have seen the Wallabies trounce the French – and they would have because the French seem to go into ‘relax’ mode after lunch – there is a perverse pleasure in watching two nations who have glared across the Channel at each other for centuries fight it out for a chance at the big prize. I can just imagine how this match will be viewed in all those little villages and towns across France this evening, especially in the cafes and bars where so many English expats now live.

Who do I hope will win?. Well, the English really need something like a big win to temporarily lift them out of the doldrums that the UK has been in for so long. And the French need to win because no-one else except the French want them to win.

It will be Agincourt all over again – albeit in Paris – and English fans everywhere will be echoing the sentiments of ol’ King Henry V singing ‘Cry God for Harry, England and St George!’. And the French?…it’s Sunday tomorrow which means they will want to take it easy, and a victory over Les Anglais will make it all the more sweeter. As an Aussie who watched last weeks match I can only agree.

Software Choice for Physicians

Some years back I worked as a secretary for the local GP, this was in the 1970′s before doctor’s offices became computorized. The basic form of patient and data management consisted of a simple card index system, whereby a card was filled out with name, address, details etc. The doctor would take card and patient for consultation and write on the card about treatment management. All patients accounts were hand written as well as were receipts.  Now, this system worked well enough at the time but, thinking back, it was not cost effective at all especially if a patient’s card got lost.

Today the greater majority of Physicians have taken advantage of the benefits that come with computorizing their practice/business by utilizing electronic health records software from VirMedice. The advantages include greater and more accurate storage of patient data; increased revenue through reduction of outgoing expenses; greater security of data storage and especially that of greater quality of care and patient management.

As Physicians these days look increasingly towards effective electronic health records software for their patient and administrative management, VirMedice is at the forefront providing solutions to their needs.

Coming to France? It ain’t the US of A.

We have a good number of guests from America who stay here en route from Spain to France. Just about all of them fall into that familiar trap…that what they find in Spain they will also find in  France. They don’t. The biggest difference they encounter here is the opening and, especially, the closing hours of the restaurants here in France.

Just this evening we have an American couple who study in Valencia for most of the year and have arrived here for a couple of days break. They arrived here this evening and it was not until after 9pm that they came down from their room to ask us where they should go for a meal. We told them McDonalds, only because that is the only place that is open after 9pm here and they close at 11pm. The local restaurants stop serving at 8.30pm and close the doors at 9pm. In Spain the restaurants OPEN at 9pm and close, well, the next morning. The French obviously like to get to bed…perennial party poopers you could say.

Just try explaining this to the Americans though. And it is not their fault to be honest. They land in Spain first; eat, drink and party until they drop, right around the clock…then they come to France. Everyone here slams the doors shut by ten and that is it. It is quite a difference, and one that is not going to change in the near future. We can only hope that Sarkozy will introduce laws that will see the French catching up with the rest of the world; working harder, longer, more often and staying awake a bit longer. I hope to see France become more ‘alive’ where it should be.

The French can only benefit, as will their guests. And hopefully we will see less disappointed, and hungry,  Americans.
