School trips…who plans them?

As we are now moving away from summer and settle into autumn the new school year has begun. My son is settling nicely into his new class and is actually enjoying things at school more this time around. Allan is not one of your school enthusiasts you see, he is already planning on leaving at 16 but I have news for him…as he well knows.

The school trips are now being planned and I am wondering what goes into the decision making when these trips involve overnight stays away from home and also involving outdoor activities. Basically because we are now moving into the type of weather where staying indoors is the norm. Allan’s class has a trip organised that for the past two weeks has been cancelled twice due to the elements. They are to hike to a village up in the mountains, spend the night in gites with BBQ’s for dinner, etc, and then hike back down the valley to their school the next day. Now, this all sounds wonderful as the area in question is really stunning, but, in bad weather-time?.

Twice now the trip has been cancelled because of the wind, rain and heavy fog we have been experiencing lately so why on earth don’t they plan these things for the spring or summer months?. Of course the kids have all been disappointed and this week, yet again, the trip was cancelled so I wonder if it will go ahead at all.

And guess what? they were to leave this morning and how is the weather today?…fine, mild and sunny.  Oh well.
